Phuket, Thailand

We have discovered many advantages of the culture and life in Thailand. In one of our previous posts, "Medical Tourism is at a High Point", we explored the beautiful and world-renowned Bumrungrad Hospital located in Bangkok, Thailand about 9 and 1/2 hours north-east of Phuket, Thailand. Bumrungrad Hospital has become one of the top hospitals for expats and anyone who wants to undergo high quality medical procedures at a fraction of the price when compared to the United States. Procedures in the fields of cosmetic and plastic surgery are in demand from people all around the world and they have been getting more and more popular due to their great reputation abroad.

After learning more about Bangkok and its famous Bumrungrad Hospital, we discovered Phuket, Thailand which supplies a multitude of attractions. First and foremost, is the beautiful beach life and being that it's Thailand's largest island creates an array of activities for its inhabitants. The water is warm, clear, and wonderfully inviting making it easy for anyone to fall in love with this city. The name Phuket is derived from the Malay word bukit which means 'hill' and that's how this city appears from a distance.

Top Destination for Retirees

Phuket, Thailand has transformed into a multicultural and international retirement destination. 100,000 foreign residents have made their homes here and 21 percent of Phuket's total population is made up of expats. The biggest appeal for anyone considering moving to this top city is the cost of living. Rent can range between $350 to $400 a month! Keep in mind this is not mediocre living here, these places come fully furnished and offer very comfortable living. If you take into account all of your expenses such as food, utilities, entertainment, and simple transportation, you can easily live on a monthly budget of $1000 and that is for two people!

Entertainment is in abundance with late night partying in Patong, the beach town in Phuket's west coast. If that's not your style, there are fantastic golf courses spread throughout the island as well as beautiful international restaurants. Just north or south of Patong are more peaceful coastal towns that have smaller villages.

The Best Medical Care

One main reason this city is so appealing to retirees, is the fact that everything is available on the island. This includes top of the line medical care along with Thailand's second largest international airport. Not only does Bangkok have top-notch medical care, but Phuket also provides high quality medical care for 20 to 80 percent less than what medical services go for in the U.S. According to expats, the medical care can be far more superior that what is offered in the U.S.

Phuket offers beautiful green scenery along with amazing weather. The city is also not too big or crowded perfect for anyone who wants to bring their family and create a home. Schools and education are a highlight of the city drawing in families who want to build their lives here.
